I DA'ed in 1996. I sent letters to the local KH, personal friends, and another one to the Society via Dan Sydlik. The underlying purpose in my mind was to lay out in no uncertain terms that they have NO control over or influence in my life. I cannot and will not live a lie. I left on my terms and that's good enough for me. It's going to be different for each individual, as it's a personal call.

To Dissassociate or just Fade into Inactivity ? Your Choice ? Reasons ?
by flipper inthis has been asked before, however i thought it may be good for newer members of the board to read some of our reasons on how we decided to exit the jw cult and why we decided to do it the way we did.. first off - i have been faded for almost 8 years.
essentially i decided to fade into inactivity and not da because i have elderly jw parents who would shun me if i did get dfed or daed myself.
also- i like keeping open the possibilities that some of my many jw relatives may in time start doubting and have questions and reach out to me in my inactive state.

Has a very poorly dog.........
by watersprout inbit of background info..... we have a neighbour who is a complete psychopath, she has tried to get us evicted, turned neighbours against us, bad mouthed us to our visitors.. last year our dog who is a jack/staff and is very healthy started to go downhill.... lethergy, depression, vomiting bile, coughing.
we took her to the vets who ran loads of tests on organ failure, cancer etc and they all came back clear.
he repeatedly asked us if she could have eaten anything.

Thanks to Those That Went Before Us
by OnTheWayOut ini want to say thanks to those that have blazed the trail for others to become former jehovah's witnesses.. many were disfellowshipped or disassociated, some stopped going to meetings before "faders" existed.
many had no internet or any way of gathering with others who left the jw's.
later, the likes of randy watters and ray franz gave many a sense of a group conscience with their efforts and writings.

I've been on these message boards since they started, and used to be more active. I would like to express my appreciation for those that sponsored places like Jesus Witnesses, Philia, Channel D, H2O, and the host of sites that have mushroomed from small beginnings. JWD/JWN, Topix, and JWS continue to be outlets for the desperation that's felt by those that are literally losing their religion. Names that stand out for me are of course Randy Watters, JanH, Norm, COMF, and AlanF; names that are rarely if ever seen anymore (except Randy). Their research and blunt honesty are characteristics that I much admire. So, thank you guys, if you happen to be reading this.

This is not "a website totally devoted towards the condemnation of Jehovah's Witnesses." It is a site where you will hear the TRUTH about an organization that holds millions of people captives of a false concept. You will be shown how demonically manipulative the leadership is. Here you will find the wounded, the mangled, the lost, the hurt, the pain, the shed blood, the lies, the deception, the double speak,...in essence, the truth that the Watchtower Society doesn't want YOU to know. The JW Organization is condemned already. It's ONLY redemptive action isn't further manipulation, but would be to set the captives free. They, however, won't do that. The rank and file JW's are their avenue of revenue. Welcome to their club.

What made you leave "The Truth"?
by Chemical Emotions infor me it was many things.
most concerned certain teachings that invloved genders, children, sex, sexuality and sexual orientations, disfellowshipping, apostates, blood, rape, and few other things, as well as the jw's unloving attitude toward so many people..

Shelby said: I am not nice. To say that I am would be another lie. I can BE nice... but I honestly have to work at it.
Hahaha girl! This definitely struck a cord with me, because it's soooo true! Draggin' this flesh around is, well, a drag! I can't tell you the times I HAVE to remind myself to BE nice.
BTW, it's been a long time since we've had any sort of interaction. Most of it was on H2O. Seems you've made a place for yourself here and captured the hearts of a large segment of the board. Persistence does pay off!

Top 10 reasons why JWs don't have the truth - please contribute
by oldlightnewshite ini thought it would be an interesting exercise to ask everybody on here what their 'top 10 reasons why jws don't have the truth' actually were.
maybe we can see some correlating views/patterns/ideas that may help us de-programme the newbies that come on this site.
if eventually most people have an outstanding gripe/concern it'll help everybody understand the ex-jw mindset a little better.

Marking 7 Years out of the Watchtower
by lovelylil2 inboy oh boy where to start?
lots of changes over the last seven years.
this week i had been reflecting on just how drastically my life has changed for the better since loosening the grip of the watchtower society.. in brief, my life seven years ago this month looked liked this; my family was very unhappy after nearly a decade of serving the "happy god" of the watchtower and being part of the "happiest people on earth".

Hi Lilly,
I just wanted to tell you how much I enjoyed reading your testimony. It is an amazing ongoing saga, one that will sustain you and provide a witness without the burden. Thank you so much! Looking forward to more of your posts.
